Regarding the latest poll: it is a tie between those who think there won’t be that much need in classical programmers in 5 years, and those who think classical programmers will still be in demand.



My bet is that prompting will change current ways of (software) engineering forever by 2029, and there won’t be many classical engineers left on the market.



It won’t be fast, and there will be still lots of legacy platforms that need some “classical approach”, but overall, prompting-like approach will become a new higher level of programming.
